Scientists at the University of California, Davis, in partnership with the Mars Advanced Research Institute, have announced a significant breakthrough in the production of low-calorie sugar substitutes, such as allulose. This discovery could help address one of the primary obstacles to the widespread adoption of these alternatives: production costs.

UC Davis researcher, Brittany Greenwood (Simmons Lab, Microbiology), is working on ways to use a bacterium called Pseudomonas mosselii to combat the effects of Fusarium oxysporum, a fungus that damages crops worldwide.

The University of California, Davis, today announced that philanthropists Lynda and Stewart Resnick, co-owners of The Wonderful Company, have pledged the largest gift ever to the university by individual donors. UC Davis Health is partnering with Pfizer on two new clinical trials to test the COVID-19 booster vaccine in healthy adults. At its Sacramento clinic, UC Davis is  recruiting double-vaccinated participants to assess the efficacy of different strength booster doses and test heart muscle protein levels after a booster shot.

During a friendly design competition, held on February 15, undergraduate engineering student teams gathered to build Corsi-Rosenthal air filters. The build event received financial support from Texas Instruments and UC Davis’ Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
